11 Natural Alternatives to HRT

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is a recent development in health care; it’s a means of subduing the symptoms of menopause by injecting hormones (mainly estrogen) and gradually tapering them off. They’re not safe to use past age 60, and, as with any hormone therapy, they carry certain risks—hormones influence energy levels, pain, and mood (among other things), and getting an injection is a kind of Russian roulette, in that you won’t know how your own body will respond. There are natural alternatives to HRT, many of them with centuries of use behind them.
